The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Elementary Education degree prepares aspiring teacher candidates for successful careers shaping the next generation of leaders. This program, designed to layer on top of an Associate in Arts degree, will equip you with the information, skills and experiences necessary to lead tomorrow’s elementary classrooms.
As a future teacher candidate in this program, you’ll have opportunities to engage in classroom settings while observing and interacting with students, teachers and school administrators. You’ll learn from highly qualified Valencia College faculty as well as highly qualified teacher mentors within your school of placement. During the program, you’ll gain skills and utilize strategies that will prepare you for addressing the needs of diverse learners.
Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education program at Valencia College, you’ll be eligible for Florida Elementary Teacher Certification (K-6) and endorsements in Reading (K-12) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL, K-12).

An Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree from a regionally accredited institution in any field is a direct pathway to the B.S. in Elementary Education program.

Coursework
Lower-division Coursework
To fulfill the lower division (first half) of the B.S. degree in Elementary Education, you must complete an A.A. degree and EDF 2005 Introduction to the Teaching Profession, or at least 60 college credit hours (including satisfaction of general education requirements for an A.A. degree), from a regionally accredited institution.
Upper-division Coursework
Our Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education program may allow new students the opportunity to work on any remaining lower-level (1XXX/2XXX) and certain upper-level (3XXX/4XXX) baccalaureate courses concurrently.

Steps to Completion
5 Steps to Your Bachelor's Degree Upon Completing Your A.A. Degree.
- Apply for the B.S. in Elementary Education program. Submit your college transcripts.
- Once you’ve been accepted to the program, you’ll be invited to complete the online bachelor’s orientation and a mandatory program orientation.
- Register for classes and meet with a program advisor if needed.
- Complete the program requirements as outlined in the online catalog. 60 credit hours from the A.A. degree and 60 hours of B.S. coursework. The credit courses required may vary depending on the credits you bring to the B.S. program.
- Graduate with your bachelor's degree.
PROGRAM LENGTH
120 credits
You can complete your A.A. and B.S. in Elementary Education degree program in as little as four years. If you already have an eligible A.A. degree, you can complete your upper-division studies in as little as two years.
Credits or associate degrees earned must be from a regionally accredited school for acceptance into our program.

Job Outlook
The demand for qualified kindergarten and elementary teachers is at an all-time high, growing at a fast rate, and is anticipated to increase well into the future. Orange County Public Schools (OCPS)—the 9th largest school district in the United States and the fourth largest in Florida—is one of the largest employers in the county. Neighboring School District of Osceola County (SDOC) is also in the area served by Valencia College.
Valencia College graduates will be well prepared for employment in Florida public, charter and private schools as teachers from kindergarten to grade six. Teachers who aspire to enter K-12 school administration can articulate to graduate degree programs at the University of Central Florida and other institutions.
