Exemplar Online Courses
A Valencia Exemplar Online Course is a course developed by Valencia faculty members and based upon approved college course outcomes. These courses and related resources are then available for adoption and use by other Valencia faculty members. Exemplar Online Courses are recognized as "best examples" of online course design through an internal peer-review process based upon the principles of Quality Matters. Valencia has adopted the Quality Matters rubric for its peer-based approach to quality assurance and continuous improvement for online and hybrid courses.
Exemplar Online Courses contain wonderful ready-to-use resources for you to use in your online, hybrid or web-enhanced courses. These courses may contain test banks, discussion question banks, alternative activities and learning objects. Faculty members who choose to adopt exemplar courses have the option to adopt any or all of these items to personalize the course. Adopting faculty may also add announcements and other supplemental materials to add their own style and expertise to the course. However, any changes to the course should meet Quality Matters and Universal Design standards.
Valencia Standard Template
A Valencia standard template sets up the framework for the basic design of your online or hybrid course and can be uploaded into your blank Blackboard course. This template contains design elements that meet 15 of the essential standards for Quality Matters.
The template can be fully customized for your course content for online, hybrid or web-enhanced delivery in any subject/discipline area. If you are new to teaching online or would like a starting point for course design, consider adopting this excellent resource for you and your students.
The standard template includes:
- Detailed header and footer information.
- Start Here/Welcome Module*: contains vital student course orientation materials, that can be fully customized to your course.
- Sample Learning Module*: contains a basic framework for delivery of course content.
- Student Resources Module*: contains weblinks that connect students to vital collegewide learner support resources.
*These modules are also available for import into your course individually.

Exemplar Online Courses, Valencia Standard Templates and associated content are archived by Learning Technology Services.
