James M. and Dayle L. Seneff Honors College
Honors Curriculum
While students have some flexibility in designing their honors program to meet individual needs, there are four basic tracks that lead to graduation from the James M. and Dayle L. Seneff Honors College: the Interdisciplinary Studies Track (available at the West campus), the Leadership Track (available at the Osceola campus), the Undergraduate Research Track (available at the East campus), and the Jeffersonian Track (available at the Winter Park campus).
West Campus: Interdisciplinary Studies Track
The interdisciplinary studies track has a humanities-style, multi-cultural curriculum that features team-taught courses focusing on a wide range of subject matter – from history to science, from art to philosophy.
Osceola Campus: Leadership Track
The leadership track explores different styles of leadership and encourages students to become agents of change in the college and community. The track includes a strong service component.
East Campus: Undergraduate Research Track
The undergraduate research track is designed to introduce students to the process and practice of academic research and is especially suited for students who plan to go to graduate or professional school.
Winter Park Campus: Jeffersonian Track
The Jeffersonian track is designed to provide highly-motivated students a well-rounded general education curriculum with thematically-integrated courses. At Winter Park, the focus is on creating opportunities for students to become active, global citizens.
Honors Courses
Honors classes are not just regular classes with additional work; they provide an entirely unique intellectual and co-curricular experience. In addition, classes are kept small; the average class size is 16 students. Students in honors courses study and evaluate primary source materials rather than relying solely on textbooks. The classes help students learn to fashion original interpretations and analyses of course materials.
