Application Process

  1. Select a conference from the approved list or get the conference approved by the Internationalizing the Curriculum (INZ) committee.
    • Please note that funding for the fall 2018 term will be reserved for the FCIE Annual Conference. Please see below for more details about the FCIE conference.
  2. Complete the International Education Conference Funding Request Form listed below before the semester deadlines:
    • June 15th deadline - To attend a conference in the fall term (Sept. 1 - Dec. 31).
    • October 15th deadline - To attend a conference in the spring term (Jan. 1 - April 30).
    • February 15th deadline - To attend a conference in the summer term (May 1 - August 31).
    NOTE: All requests will be reviewed after each semester deadline. The listing of conferences are available by clicking the dropdown menu directly below.
  3. Your completed application will be sent to your supervisor by the SAGE office to obtain approval.
  4. Once the conference request and supervisor approval has been received, it will be reviewed by the SAGE office. If your conference is not on the approved list, the INZ committee will be notified by the SAGE office and asked to approve or deny the conference. All conference requests from the approved list an those approved by the INZ committee will be evaluated using the selection and award criteria (see below). Applicants will be notified by the SAGE office if their funding request was approved or denied.

  • The requestor must explain how the conference is relevant to the work of internationalizing the college/campus/curriculum.
  • The requestor must discuss their primary objective for attending the conference and how they plan to share and apply what they learn upon return.
  • Preference may be given to those who are attending a conference that will advance the goals of the SAGE office.
  • Preference may be given to someone whose proposal was accepted to present at the conference.
  • Preference may be given to those who have not been funded previously by the SAGE office.
  • Preference may be given to individuals who have identified matching funds.
  • Upon return, the requestor must share the information with the INZ committee and their plan to use the information to advance the goals of the SAGE office. Please note that the following information will appear int the International Education Annual Report and will be distributed college-wide.
    • Ideas for sharing information upon return: Present at International Education Week (IEW) or the SAGE-coordinator events, present at a division meeting, offer a brown bag lunch session on your campus for faculty and staff, created a presentation with information to distribute via email and post to the SAGE website, create a video on a topic and upload to YouTube and link to the SAGE website.
    • Ideas for this requirement related to internationalizating include: Use an idea presented at the conference in your classroom and report out how it went, plan to apply to lead a short-term study abroad program next year, plan to submit an Action Research Project through Faculty Development related to internationalizing the curriculum, add to an existing course internationalizing toolkit.


  1. Complete your Authorization to Travel Form.
    • NOTE: SAGE funds cannot be used for any extended hotel stays beyond what is required for the conference attendance, nor attendance to any of the extra social activities or tours offered.
  2. Sign the form, obtain your dean's signature, and send the form to the SAGE office (DO-335) to sign off as budget manager.
  3. When you return:
    • Complete the Per Diem Form.
    • Send the form to the SAGE office to sign off as budget manager.
    • Coordinate how you will be reporting out with the SAGE office.
    • Report back to the SAGE office what was implemented pertaining to the internationalizing requirement.
