How does it work?

  • The Civic Leadership Internship is designed for students interested in a career in public service or in seeking political office
  • Intern with elected officials and public policy agencies at the local, state and federal levels
  • Students must complete a minimum of 80 contact hours per internship credit hour (1-4 credit hours)
  • Students are supervised by a political science faculty member

 

Who is eligible?

  • 2.5 overall G.P.A.
  • Satisfactory completion of college prep courses (if you were required to take them based on CPT/SAT/ACT scores)
  • 12 Valencia college-level credits including a minimum of "C" in POS 2041; concurrent enrollment in or satisfactory completion of INR 2002 or POS 2112
  • Recommendation of faculty or dean
  • Program Coordinator's approval

How do I get started?

  1. Complete an online application if you are eligible
  2. On the application, list three potential employers with which you’d like to intern
  3. Print and return the application along with…
    • an unofficial copy of your transcript (from your Atlas account)
    • the Letter of Recommendation completed by one of your professors
    • a Statement of Intent which indicates why you would like to participate and why you believe you are a good candidate for the Program. There is no specified length for the statement.
  4. Read the statement of terms, sign and date the application
  5. Return completed application packet to one of the Internship & Workforce Services Offices
  6. You will be contacted by email regarding your approval. If you are not selected, you will receive a letter from Internship & Workforce Services Office indicating the steps you need to take to be eligible in the future.

Note*

  • The eligibility process takes 2-3 weeks.
  • Program acceptance does not mean you are registered.
  • You may have to complete an application for the internship employer.
