When will the bachelor's program begin?

Do I have to complete an A.A. or A.S. degree?
Applicants should have completed

  • An Associate in Science degree from a regionally accredited institution in Computer Programming and Analysis or Computer Information Technology

  • An associate degree from a regionally accredited institution and completion of the required common prerequisites.

If I am a Valencia College student, do I need to submit an application?
Yes, you will need to submit the Bachelor of Applied Science in Computing Technology and Software Development degree application online.

If I am a Valencia College student, do I need to pay the application fee?
There is no application fee for the B.A.S. degree.

If I am a Valencia College student, do I need to prove Florida residency?
If you are an active Valencia College student and have already proven Florida residency, you do not need to prove Florida residency. If you are an inactive Valencia College student, you will need to submit the re-admit Florida residency form.

What is the tuition for the bachelor's program?
The baccalaureate student fee/tuition cost per credit hour at Valencia College is $112.19 for in-state students and $427.59 for non-Florida residents for the 3000 and 4000 level courses. If you completed your college credit A.A. degree at Valencia College and chose to complete the B.A.S., the total tuition cost will be around $13,000.

Can I apply if I graduated from another institution?
Yes, applicants should have completed an A.A. degree, A.S. degree or at least 60 college credit hours (including satisfaction of general education requirements for an A.A. or A.S. degree), from a regionally accredited institution prior to admittance.  Applicants will also need to have met the common prerequisites.

What is the application deadline?
Applications submitted after the Application Priority Deadline stated in the online Important Dates and Deadlines Calendar will be accepted. Applications received after the priority deadline will be processed; however, class selection is limited and financial aid will not be processed by the fee payment deadline.

Do I need to write an essay to apply?
No essay is required to apply.

How long will it take to finish my degree?
The bachelor's is a 4-year (2+2) program with a total of 120 credits; 60 credits are from the associate degree and the remaining 60 credits, when admitted, can be completed in 2 years if you attend full time. The program is designed to be flexible around your schedule.

What are the graduation requirements for this program?
In addition to completing the course requirements detailed in the curriculum in order to graduate, students must:

  • Earn a minimum 2.0 Valencia College and overall GPA.
  • Complete all core coursework with a minimum grade of C (2.0) in all core courses.
  • Satisfy the 36 credit hour General Education requirements and Gordon Rule requirements for Valencia College.
  • Complete at least 25 percent of the 120 credit hour degree program (30 credits) at Valencia College, based upon the Florida College System’s requirement of a 2+2 admission into the baccalaureate program. Fifteen of those hours must be 3000 or 4000 level courses from the program core course list.
  • Submit an application for graduation through Atlas by the deadline date listed in the Academic Calendar in the online official catalog. The student must have at least the minimum number of college-level credits for the degree, including all courses currently registered, in order to submit a graduation application.
  • Fulfill all financial obligations to Valencia College.
  • Foreign Language: Successfully complete the Florida foreign language requirement: two years high school or one year of college (at least eight credits) in a single foreign language. American Sign Language is acceptable. Foreign language taken at the college level does not satisfy the General Education credits.
  • Satisfy the civic literacy requirement. As per Florida Rule 6A-10.04213, Prior to the award of an associate in arts or baccalaureate degree, first-time-in-college students entering a Florida College System institution in the 2018-19 school year, and thereafter must demonstrate competency in civic literacy through one of the following options prior to graduation:
    • Successfully passing POS 2041 U.S. GOVERNMENT. or AMH 2020 U.S. HISTORY 1877 TO PRESENT or
    • Successfully passing a prescribed assessment: AP Government & Politics Test (passing score =3, or AP U.S. History Test (passing score = 4), or CLEP American Government (passing score = 50)

At the time this catalog was published, the Florida Department of Education (DOE) has not finalized the complete course or assessment options. This catalog will be updated with course and assessment options once they are published by DOE.

Total Semester Credits required - 120 credit hours in addition to completing the Foreign Language Requirement above. The credit courses required may vary depending on the credits the student brings to the B.A.S. program. Additional courses to complete the required 120 credit hours for graduation must apply to the degree and be approved by an advisor.

Students who have completed core courses prior to entering the B.A.S. program may substitute lower level COP, COT, CIS, CTS, or CET prefix courses or CGS 2786C with advisor approval.
