Union Organizing Efforts: What You Need to Know
Valencia College is aware that the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is attempting to organize our part-time faculty. Union representatives made public records requests for your work and home contact information, and have visited faculty in their classrooms, offices, and homes in an attempt to persuade our employees to join the union. Many faculty members have complained to us regarding these union interactions. These same faculty members had their work interrupted and felt intimidated by the way in which they were approached. Please understand that Valencia does not sanction such visits, and you are under no obligation to speak with these union organizers.
The College does not believe the union serves the best interests of our faculty, or the institution as a whole. We hope that you will find the content provided within this website useful in forming your own opinion regarding the union.
Valencia is committed to its faculty members, and supports their right to freely express their opinions, exchange ideas, and explore the benefits associated with union representation. Included within this website is relevant information regarding employee, union, and employer rights and responsibilities under Florida law. Also included are answers to frequently asked questions, as well as suggested questions that you may consider asking of a union organizer if you are approached. We want you to be informed on the issues related to this decision and are committed to providing accurate, timely, and thorough information to you.
We are interested in hearing from you. If you have a question about union organizing, collective bargaining, or labor relations, we'll do our best to answer it.
