Global Peace Week
September 27th-30th 2021 | Virtual
Each September, the Peace and Justice Institute celebrates the International Day of Peace with Global Peace Week festivities and events including peace education, music, guest speakers, and free film screenings in partnership with the Global Peace Film Festival.
The United Nations sanctioned International Peace Day is September 21st. The mission of “Peace Day” is to have at least one non-violent, cease-fire day throughout the world. This year the theme is “recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world.”
Conversation on Justice
Each January the Peace and Justice Institute hosts Conversation on Justice, this year happening January 24-27, 2022.
The conference covers today's hot-button issues ranging from racial inequality, domestic violence, immigration, gender stereotypes, LGBTQ+ topics, and the environment. Each event, through the power of transformative stories, facilitated dialogue, film, and more, delves into critical conversations whose ultimate goal is to promote a culture of peace and mend the fabric of our humanity.
This year Conversation on Justice features a keynote event with Rachel Louise Snyder, an American Journalist and author of No Visible Bruises: What We Don’t Know About Domestic Violence Can Kill Us, which explores the roots of private violence, its far-reaching consequences, and the efforts to address the problem.
Orlando Speaks was established to create a safe space for dialogue where authentic voices come together to share stories, fears, and concerns, with an eye toward finding common ground among two groups that often struggle together - police and citizens. We now offer "Our Community Speaks", which is a series of interactive workshops that utilizes innovative communication strategies to foster ongoing citizen engagement and conversation between residents, the City and the local Police Department to better serve and celebrate the community's diversity. Workshops are custom designed so as to be timely and meet local community needs.
Join PJI as we visit local houses of workshop and thought communities to gain a greater understanding of our religious and philosophical diversity.
