Major Audition Schedule

Associate in Arts (A.A.) Degree Pathway in Dance Performance Audition
November 16, 2024 in-person audition
9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Building 6, Room 104
East Campus, Valencia College

Please submit your application and reserve your spot by Friday, November 8, 2024. 

The A.A. in Dance Performance audition will consist of a technique class: ballet barre and center, modern combination and jazz combination. Individual choreography or a solo is not required. Participants are encouraged to wear black leotards and pink or flesh colored tights for the women and white shirt and black tights for the men. Please bring all dance shoes.

To reserve a spot in our upcoming audition, November 16, 2024, please click the button below to fill out the following form and submit it no later than November 8, 2024: You will need to submit a photo of yourself in dance clothes similar to what you will wear at the audition with your application.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance status within 2 weeks of the audition. 

If you are unable to attend the in-person audition and would like to submit a video audition instead, your application is due on November 8, 2024. Video submissions will be due November 22, 2024.

Requirements for the video audition:

• No dance studio needed! Please make sure we can see you clearly and you are in a safe space for movement.
• Audition attire encouraged: Men: White shirt and black tights (or comfortable, tight clothing) ballet shoes if you own them; Women: Black leotard and pink or skin colored tights (or comfortable, tight clothing), ballet and/or jazz shoes if you own them. All hair secured and out of the face.
• Please keep the video to no more than 10 minutes.
• Introduce yourself with your full name and for which term that you are applying. (i.e. Spring 2025, Fall 2025) 
• Your video must demonstrate a short ballet barre and center, a modern combination and a jazz combination.
  • Ballet barre: pliés, tendus, dégagés, rond de jambe, barre adagio, grand battements
  • Ballet center: center adagio, pirouettes, petit allegro, grand allegro
  • Modern combination: short movement sequence that shows use of levels and dynamics
  • Jazz combination: short movement sequence that shows musicality, performance and understanding of the genre

Please email a private YouTube, Google Drive, or Dropbox link of your audition video once completed.

The classes listed below (*) are required for enrollment into the major program. Prior to acceptance into the program, the student may have arranged an academic schedule of classes which may need to be changed. In the event a new dance major is having difficulty arranging their schedule to include these dance classes, the department will provide assistance to accommodate their needs.

DAA 2610 Dance Composition and Improvisation for Majors

To be accepted and begin classes at Valencia College, Department of Dance students will need to apply for admission at Valencia College by completing an online application through the application portal. Valencia College recommends that students begin their application process either before auditioning or immediately after. Valenica requires either an in person or an online orientation prior to the applicants start date or first day of classes. Spots in the orientation fill up quickly and if not completed by the first day of school, the applicant will not be permitted to start classes at that time.
