Advanced Technical Certificate
The Advanced Technical Certificate (ATC) in CT is for health professionals who have completed an associate degree, or higher, in Radiography, Radiation Therapy or Nuclear Medicine Technology from a regionally accredited institution.
The Computed Tomography (CT) Certificate can lead to a Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic and Imaging Sciences for students who meet the specific Bachelor’s degree requirements.
The advising staff can answer program-specific questions, assist in career and educational planning, and offer expert educational guidance for students seeking career opportunities through the completion of an A.S. or B.S. Degree or a Certificate program.
Computed tomography (CT) uses x rays and computers to gather anatomic information from a sectional plane of the body and present it as a three-dimensional image. The field of computed tomography is continuously changing to provide diagnoses of disease processes that cannot be demonstrated by general radiographic methods. A CT technologist must be able to perform computed tomographic procedures without constant supervision to technical detail. It is important that the technologist have a thorough knowledge of anatomy in every dimension. Judgments about image formation and archiving and procedure performance have to be made independently and with regard to patient care and safety. This advanced technology uses highly specialized equipment and requires specialized education and training.
Increasingly, it is being required that imaging professionals be credentialed in any modality that they may be performing diagnostic procedures. This Advanced Technical Certificate Program is designed for individuals who are currently certified in Radiography (ARRT) or Radiation Therapy (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology (ARRT or NMTCB). Program content follows the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) curriculum to prepare program completers to take the ARRT certification exam in Computed Tomography. Completion of the program does not ensure permission to take the credentialing examination. With the exception of clinical education, program courses are offered online.
