Wanted: Purrcy Purrformers
Valencia College students are needed to fill the shoes (and the costume) of Purrcy the VC Puma. If you want to bring your enthusiasm, positive energy and joy to our mascot, you may want to apply to become a Purrcy Purrformer.
This is a paid work study position.
As the VC mascot, you will be one of several Purrcy actors who will make public and on-campus appearances, performing and posing for photo opportunities—all the while encouraging positive participation and engagement. Purrcy will always be accompanied and assisted by a “handler” whose responsibilities include helping you with the costume, crowd management and more.
At times, you will also serve as a handler for another Purrcy Purrformer. Handlers help Purrcy dress and navigate to/from the event. Handlers also communicate directly with event personnel, prevent people from touching or crowding Purrcy and more. To fulfill handler duties, you’ll need organizational and communication skills, as well as an enthusiastic, outgoing and engaging personality.

What it takes to be Purrcy
Purrcy is energetic and fun, but these aren’t the only requirements. Before applying to audition for a spot as a Purrcy Purrformer, consider your physicality and your availability.
These are the requirements of a Purrcy actor/handler:
- Height: 5’5” – 5’7”
- Trim and athletic
- Full range of motion and mobility
- Ability to sustain high-energy movement for up to 45 minutes
- In good physical health with no major health conditions (as documented by a physician/recent physical)
- No allergies to materials in costume
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled in at least one credit hour per term
Important
You will need to be available 10 hours per week on campus for up to two terms. To be able to serve as a Purrformer/handler, you must:
- Commit to performing for up to two terms
- Have your own transportation
