LSAMP Scholars Program

The Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program at Valencia College is designed to foster the academic success of historically underrepresented minority students seeking STEM degrees. LSAMP offers a range of program and support offerings to guide students in their journeys to obtain baccalaureate degrees in STEM. One such initiative is the LSAMP Scholars Program, which supports students in conducting undergraduate research. Through the LSAMP Scholars Program, students engage in at least 40 hours of research activities under the guidance of staff and faculty mentors, participate in ongoing cohort meetings to gain skills in conducting and presenting research, and develop a research poster and accompanying abstract. LSAMP Scholars present their research in front of peers, friends, faculty, and family each semester during the Scholars Showcase. In addition to obtaining hands-on STEM and research experience, students who participate in the LSAMP Scholars program also benefit from the opportunity to improve their communication, problem-solving, and other transferrable skills which are important for long-term academic success.
