AI in Higher Education
Leveraging AI Responsibly in Academic Spaces
To prepare faculty, staff and students to leverage AI responsibly in academic spaces, in the workplace and in society and help them develop the critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to confront ethical questions that AI poses, Valencia College has established a forward-thinking Presidential Commission on AI with the following charges:
Identify and explore the most promising uses of AI to support Valencia College’s mission and strategic impact plan goals.
Curate and create learning opportunities related to the potential uses of AI in higher education for Valencia College faculty and staff.
Here are our research summaries of collective learning, future inquiry and recommendations for implementation.
The Commission is exploring opportunities to leverage AI in a variety of ways, including how to support teaching and learning. This work will lead to the development of our own resources by way of collaboration with internal and external stakeholders through new and existing partnerships.
We will also consider how Valencia College may leverage AI tools to provide increased levels of service and support to students as well as to streamline administrative processes inherent in a large institution. The Commission will actively engage in a comprehensive review to identify and address ethical considerations, security risks and limitations relating to the impact of AI tools in higher education. Additionally, we will focus on enhancing data security and privacy measures, aligning college policies and providing resources to inform all stakeholders about the responsible use of AI in our work.
