Programs and Events

Join us as we support your personal and academic growth through our counseling events and programming, and Skillshops. Boost your emotional well-being and academic success with practical tools for stress management, time management skills, and resilience. Together we will explore mindfulness, effective communication, and more, as we guide you toward a balanced and successful college journey.

Koru is now MIEA, the Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults. MIEA is a 4 session no-credit course that will teach you the skill of mindfulness.  This course was developed by two psychiatrists from Duke University.  As a result of some participants completing this no-credit course, they have decreased stress, improved sleep, increased focus and self-compassion. Please contact Dr. Marcia Roman for more information about the Koru Mindfulness training.

Suicide Prevention Training (QPR)

QPR (Question, Persuade & Refer) Gatekeeper Training will help you build skills to recognize when someone is experiencing a mental health crisis, how to respond effectively and how to offer hope during this challenging time.  Additionally, you will learn about the warning signs related to someone contemplating to end their life.  This training is free to students, faculty and staff and is supported through funding by the SAMHSA [Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration] Behavioral Health Grant – 1H79SM080474.

For students, please visit the Skillshops website to register for the next QPR session. For faculty and staff, you can view session availability through the Valencia Edge Portal.
