Learning Day 2021 is quickly approaching, and all employees are invited to attend this virtual day of celebration and learning. Learning Day will provide a variety of personal and professional learning opportunities via Zoom links for each breakout session.
When is Learning Day 2021?
Learning Day is Friday, February 12, 2021. All campus locations will be closed for Learning Day, and no classes will be held. Please make sure to post notices, signs, email reminders that offices are closed and no services are available that day.
Where is Learning Day 2021?
Learning Day will be hosted virtually via Zoom.
How should I dress for Learning Day?
Casual attire and your favorite Valencia t-shirt is encouraged.
Am I required to attend Learning Day?
All full-time employees are required to attend. It is considered a work day, and, if a full-time employee does not attend, a certificate of absence (COA) is required using either vacation or personal time (Staff – 8 hours of leave; Faculty – 7 hours of leave). Full-time employees will be paid for a full day’s worth of work, even if scheduled events end early. Non-exempt employees should work with their supervisors to adjust their work schedules, so they can attend the full day. If a non-exempt employee works any hours over 40, the employee must be paid overtime.
If I am a part-time employee, will I be compensated for attending Learning Day?
We extend our most sincere invitation to our part-time colleagues to attend Learning Day 2021. Part-time staff will be compensated for attendance at their regular rate of pay and individuals should work with their supervisor to have their normal schedule adjusted if they plan to attend. If a part-time staff member does not attend, a COA is not required. Part-time faculty participation in Learning Day is voluntary, and those who choose to attend would do so as a part of their current part-time contract.
How can I share my Learning Day 2021 experience on social media?
We encourage you to share your Learning Day experiences and insights by posting to social media, using the hashtag, #OurValencia.
Why can’t I get into the session of my choice?
In order to provide engaging learning opportunities and ensure participation in all Learning Sessions, we are asking presenters to limit session capacity to 75-100 participants. Since it is first come, first serve, if the session is full, please find another session to attend.
How do I register for the Learning Day virtual event?
Register by selecting the “RSVP for Learning Day” option on the Learning Day webpage. Follow the on screen instructions by logging into Eventbrite and filling out the information required to register. Attendees do no need to register for individual sessions as they are first-come, first served. If your first choice is full, click the Zoom link for your next choice.
Do I have access to all of the educational sessions?
In a word, yes! You will be given the opportunity to select which sessions you’d like to attend virtually. Please read over the offerings before Learning Day and know your top three options. It is up to you to decide which sessions interest you in a given time block and to attend those sessions as desired.
Will I be able to see the presenters for each session?
Yes. You will be able to see all general session and educational session speakers along with their presentations.
Can my computer or mobile device handle the virtual event?
Most up-to-date computers and mobile devices such as laptops, desktops, and handheld tablets are capable of running the virtual event for you. Please be sure your Zoom application has the most recent update. If you have additional questions, please reach out to the OIT help desk at ext. 5555 prior to Learning Day.
What do I need to do on the day of the virtual event?
On the morning of the event, please visit the Learning Day webpage to review the checklist. From the Learning Day Agenda page, proceed to the link for the opening session tab. Once the keynote speaker is done, click on the Learning Session 1 box and then click on the session title for the session of your first choice. Since it is first come, first serve, if the session is full please find another session to attend. At the end of each Learning Day, please complete the survey.
What happens if I lose my internet connection?
Relaunch your Zoom application or browser, from the Learning Day Agenda page, proceed to the link for the session where you left off, then click on the session title for the session. We apologize for any inconvenience, but since it is first come, first serve, if the session is full please find another session to attend.
Can I ask questions during the sessions?
We encourage you to ask questions at any time using the Q&A option Zoom provides. This is a social Q&A tool that allows virtual attendees to pose questions from within the online conference and allows on-site attendees to pose questions. These questions are then displayed to the session presenters for response during the live session or afterwards as a follow up.
When will I receive the instructions for attending the virtual event?
Eventbrite will send you the necessary instructions to attend the event. Make sure that the email address associated with your registration is accurate and up to date so that there is no delay in receiving communications about the day.
