Common Questions

Where is the 'Search the Library' link?

The Library information can be found in different locations for Students and Faculty/Staff.

Students can find it under the Courses Tab

Faculty/Staff can find it under the Employees Tab. 

If you are having problems finding content in Atlas, please use the Search functionality. This is accessible on the My Atlas page as well as a link in the upper right hand corner of every page.


Where do I access my Email in Atlas?

The Email Icon can be found in the top right-hand corner of Atlas Portal.

Click on the O365/Email icon to bring up a drop-down menu.

Employees will see three options in the drop-down:

  1. Webmail - this will sign you in to your @valenciacollege.edu email account. The first time you access this link you will be asked to set the current password for your Webmail account. This will store the password for you until the next time you change the password on your account.
  2. Atlas Email - this will sign you in to your @mail.valenciacollege.edu email account.
  3. Office 365 - this will give you access to your Office 365 file storage.

Students will see only two options in the drop-down:

  1. Atlas Email - this will sign you in to your @mail.valenciacollege.edu email account.
  2. Office 365 - this will give you access to your Office 365 account.

To access your email, select Email from the drop-down. You may see a Sign in page for Microsoft Outlook. 

  1. Enter your Atlas Email address
    Note: your Atlas Email address is your Atlas username and @mail.valenciacollege.edu—example: 
    catlas@mail.valenciacollege.edu and click Next. 
  2. You may be asked to select which account you would like to use; select the Work or school account that indicates it was Created by your IT department.

  3. You may be prompted to sign into Atlas again; log in again with your Atlas credentials (note: your initial log in session will still be open in another tab of your browser—this is okay). 
  4. After you have logged in the second time, you will either be directed right to your Atlas email account.

    You may be directed to the Office 365 landing page. Click on the Outlook icon on the left side of the page to get to your Atlas email account.

How to Search in Atlas

If you are having an difficulty finding specific content in Atlas, you should be able to find what you are looking for through the search functionality, linked on the top right corner of Atlas Portal, or under My Atlas Tab channels.

Enter your search terms & click 'Search'. Find the link you are looking for in the list of results & click to navigate to the page you are looking for.


Common Issues

Getting "Invalid Session" error message when clicking on a link in Atlas

If you receive the "Invalid Session" error message in Atlas, follow these steps:

  1. Log out of Atlas
  2. Clear all browser windows & reopen
  3. Clear Cache & Cookies 
    For most browsers, hit CTRL+Shift+Delete to bring up the option to clear history.
  4. In the pop-up window, select the appropriate check boxes & clear data.
  5. Go to https://atlas.valenciacollege.edu/ to log back in to Atlas.

Internet Explorer:

Open the Internet Options window, then click the "Delete" button under the "Browsing history" heading. In the next dialog, make sure "Temporary Internet files and website files" and "cookies and website data" are both checked, then click "Delete."

Firefox:

Choose "Clear all History", and make sure "Cookies" and "Cache" are checked, then click "Clear Now."

Getting the Atlas User Login Screen when clicking on a link in Atlas

If you see the Atlas User Login screen (see image below) after clicking on a link in Atlas, log out, and close the tab/window. Visit Atlas and log in . You should be taken to the correct page.

This can happen if different users log into the same browser without fully logging out.

For the safety of your information, make sure you completely log out of Atlas if you're accessing it from any shared system.


Issues accessing links in Atlas with Internet Explorer 11

Users have reported issues with some links in Atlas when using Internet Explorer 11. Make sure you're not accessing Atlas in Compatibility Mode with Internet Explorer 11.

To turn off Compatibility Mode for Atlas in Internet Explorer 11:

  1. Open Internet Explorer for the desktop, click Tools, and then click Compatibility View settings.
  2. In the Compatibility View Settings box, select each entry for valenciacollege.edu and click Remove.

     


    Getting “Error 500-account cannot be found” error message

    Did you receive an “Error 500-account cannot be found” message after clicking on Email in the O365/Email drop-down? 

  1. Keep the browser page with the error message open; open a new tab in your browser and enter login.microsoftonline.com in the address bar.
  2. If you are prompted to enter a username, enter your Atlas email address (example: catlas@mail.valenciacollege.edu) and use your Atlas password.  You should be directed to Office 365.
  3. Verify that you are in Valencia College’s Office 365 account.  If you are in the Office 365 account of a different organization, log out/sign out of that organization’s account.  The Sign Out option is located on the upper right by clicking on the user initials.

    1. After logging out of the other organization’s Office 365 account you will be redirected to the Microsoft Office login page. 
    2. At the Microsoft Office login page, you will be prompted to select an account: 
    3. Click "Use another account"
    4. Enter your Atlas login credentials.
    5. You should now be logged into Valencia College’s Office 365 account.
    6. Click on the Outlook icon on the left side of the page to get to your Atlas email account.
