Make your mark on downtown. Valencia College is offering a number of scholarship opportunities for students at our new Downtown Campus. Scholarships are a great way to help you pay for college—providing a more affordable education. There are several awards available, some of which can be combined with others.


Valencia College Downtown Scholarships

New Student Scholarship

If you’re a new student at Valencia College seeking an associate degree or certificate and will be attending Downtown Campus, you may be eligible to receive a one-time award of $500.

Award Amount: $500

Eligibility:
To be considered for the New Student Scholarship, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Apply for admission as a new student seeking an associate degree or certificate at Valencia College. This means you have not previously enrolled in or have taken any classes at Valencia College.
  • Sign up for and attend your new student orientation sessions.
  • Register for classes at Downtown Campus. You will need to take a minimum of 9 credits during the Fall 2019 semester at Downtown Campus to be eligible to receive the full award amount. This includes those that are enrolled in online courses for the Health Information Technology program.


A.S. Program Relocating to Downtown Scholarship

Are you part of a program that’s relocating to Downtown Campus? If you’re an existing full- or part-time student in culinary, digital media or health information technology—and took classes in Fall 2018, Spring 2019 or Summer 2019 — you may be eligible to receive an award totaling up to $500.

Award Amount – Full-Time Students:
Up to $500
(Award of $250 in Fall 2019 and Spring 2020)

Award Amount – Part-Time Students:
Up to $200
(Award of $100 in Fall 2019 and Spring 2020)

Eligibility:
To be considered for the A.S. Program Relocating to Downtown Scholarship, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Took classes in Fall 2018, Spring 2019 or Summer 2019 in a program relocating downtown:
    • A.S. in Baking and Pastry Management
    • A.S. in Culinary Management
    • A.S. in Digital Media Technology
    • A.S. in Health Information Technology
    • A.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management
    • A.S. in New Media Communication
    • A.S. in Restaurant and Food Management
  • You must take a minimum of 12 credits at Downtown Campus in Fall 2019 and/or Spring 2020 semesters to receive the full-time scholarship award. If you’re enrolled in less than 12 credits, you will be eligible to receive the part-time scholarship award.


UnionWest Resident Scholarship

Want to live and study downtown? If you are a Valencia College student and plan on becoming a resident of UnionWest at Creative Village—the student housing facility at Downtown Campus—you may be eligible to receive an award totaling up to $500.

Award Amount: $500
(Award of $250 in Fall 2019 and Spring 2020)

Eligibility:
To be considered for the UnionWest Resident Scholarship, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Enroll as a Valencia College Downtown Campus student.
  • Reside in UnionWest student housing.


Downtown Community Scholarship

If you’re a resident of a downtown community neighborhood and plan on taking at least 50 percent of your courses at Downtown Campus, you may be eligible to receive an award totaling up to $600.

Award Amount: $600
(Award of $300 in Fall 2019 and Spring 2020)

Eligibility:
To be considered for the Downtown Community Scholarship, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Apply for admission as a new student seeking an associate degree or certificate at Valencia College. This means you have not previously enrolled in or have taken any classes at Valencia College.
  • Reside in zip code 32801 or 32805.
  • Register for courses at Downtown Campus in Fall 2019 and/or Spring 2020. While there is no minimum credit requirement to receive this award, you must take at least 50 percent of your courses at Downtown Campus.


Scholarship Examples

Recent Grad

You’re a recent high school graduate and a new Valencia College student. You plan to move downtown to live in UnionWest and will enroll in a culinary program.

Scholarship eligibility:
New Student Scholarship AND UnionWest Resident Scholarship

Scholarship amount:
$1000 ($500 in Fall 2019 for the New Student Scholarship + $250 in Fall 2019 for the UnionWest Resident Scholarship; $250 in Spring 2020 for the UnionWest Resident Scholarship)

Dual Enrollment Student

You are a former dual enrollment student who recently graduated high school and will commute to classes at Downtown Campus to finish your associate degree.

Scholarship eligibility:
New Student Scholarship (please note that if you took any courses at Valencia College outside of dual enrollment, you will not be eligible for the New Student Scholarship)

Scholarship amount:
$500 for Fall 2019

Part-time
Hospitality Student

You’re a part-time hospitality student who took classes in Summer 2019, but plan to move to Downtown Campus and live in UnionWest.

Scholarship eligibility:
A.S. Program Relocating to Downtown Scholarship (part-time student) and UnionWest Resident Scholarship.

Scholarship amount:
$700 ($100 + $250 in Fall 2019; $100 + $250 in Spring 2020)

Full-time
Digital Media Technology Student

You’re a full-time digital media technology student who was previously enrolled at Valencia College in spring 2019 and will be commuting to classes at Downtown Campus.

Scholarship eligibility:
A.S. Relocating to Downtown (full-time student)

Scholarship amount:
$500 ($250 in Fall 2019; $250 in Spring 2020)

Full-time
Health Information Technology Student

You were enrolled in summer 2019 as a full-time health information technology student and plan on taking courses at Downtown Campus while residing in zipcode 32801.

Scholarship eligibility:
A.S. Relocating to Downtown (full-time student) scholarship.

Scholarship amount:
$500 ($250 in Fall 2019; $250 in Spring 2020)

General Education Courses

You started at Valencia College in Summer 2019 and plan to commute to Downtown Campus and take general education courses.

Scholarship eligibility:
No applicable scholarships

Reside in UnionWest

You started taking general education courses at Valencia College in Summer 2019 and plan to move downtown to reside in UnionWest.

Scholarship eligibility:
UnionWest Resident Scholarship

Scholarship amount:
$500 ($250 in Fall 2019; $250 in Spring 2020)

You will start at Valencia College in fall 2019 and plan to take at least 50 percent of your general education courses at Downtown Campus while residing in zip code 32801 or 32805.

$1,100 ($300 + $500 in Fall 2019; $300 in Spring 2020)

Recent High School Graduate from the zip code of 32801

You’re a recent high school graduate from the zip code of 32801 and plan to start as a new Valencia College student in Fall 2019 and enroll in 9 credits. You plan to move into UnionWest in Fall 2019.

Scholarship eligibility:
New Student Scholarship and Downtown Community Scholarship and UnionWest Resident Scholarship

Scholarship amount:
$1,600 ($500 + $300 + $250 in Fall 2019; and $300 + $250 in Spring 2020)

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be enrolled in a specific program type to qualify for a scholarship?
Yes. You must be seeking an associate degree (Associate in Arts or Associate in Science) or a certificate to qualify for Downtown Campus scholarship opportunities. Please note that Accelerated Skills Training programs downtown do not qualify for these Downtown Campus scholarships; however, you may request information about other scholarship opportunities by contacting astinfo@valenciacollege.edu or 407-582-6688.

Are there enrollment and credit requirements to qualify for a Downtown Campus Scholarship?
Yes. You must be enrolled at Valencia College Downtown to be eligible to be awarded a Downtown Campus scholarship. Only courses that you take downtown will be included in determining eligibility for these scholarships.

If I previously took courses at Valencia College, will I still qualify for the New Student Scholarship?
No. If you were previously enrolled in a degree or certificate program at Valencia College, you are not eligible to receive the New Student Scholarship for Downtown Campus. However, you may meet requirements for the other scholarships available.

If I participated in dual enrollment at Valencia College, will I be eligible for Downtown Campus Scholarships?
If you only took Valencia College courses in high school as a dual enrollment student, you may be eligible to receive Downtown Campus scholarships—including the New Student Scholarship.

However, if you are currently dual enrolled and plan to take courses at Valencia College Downtown while still in high school, you will not be eligible to receive Downtown Campus Scholarships.

Is there a separate application for Downtown Campus scholarships?
No. The Valencia College Financial Aid Office will award scholarships for those in which you meet the eligibility requirements. Award amounts will be posted prior to the Fall and Spring fee payment deadlines—August 16, 2019 and December 13, 2019, respectively. Please note that the scholarship award amount may be adjusted if you drop or withdraw from courses after the payment due date. Can I combine multiple Downtown Campus scholarships?
Yes. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you may combine multiple Downtown Campus scholarships together; however, please see the limitations listed below.
Scholarships that can be combined:

  • The New Student Scholarship and the UnionWest Housing Scholarship.
  • The New Student Scholarship and the Downtown Community Scholarship.
  • The New Student Scholarship, the UnionWest Housing Scholarship, and the Downtown Community Scholarship.
  • The A.S. Program Relocating Scholarship and the UnionWest Housing Scholarship.

Do I have to apply for financial aid or qualify for federal financial aid to receive these scholarships?
No. Financial aid or assistance is not required to qualify for Downtown Campus scholarships. They are available to all Valencia College students, regardless of financial need or citizenship status. However, we do encourage that you fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.ed.gov, as well as check out the scholarship bulletin board at valenciacollege.edu/scholarships for additional financial assistance. Students should also complete the Valencia College Foundation Scholarship Application.

Are international students eligible to receive Downtown Campus scholarships?
Yes. If you are a Valencia College international student, you are eligible to receive Downtown Campus scholarships as long as you meet the specific requirements listed for each award.

No. Scholarships are only available to Valencia College students who meet the eligibility requirements.
