Student Rights and Responsibilities Workshop Request


The following list outlines the workshops currently available for facilitation by members of the office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. To ensure adequate preparation and timely follow-up, please submit workshop requests at least two weeks in advance, allowing sufficient time for review and coordination.

AI in AI: Adjudicating Academic Integrity Cases Alleging Artificial Intelligence Use Workshop

(60-minutes)

The "AI in AI: Adjudicating Academic Integrity Cases Alleging Artificial Intelligence Use" session at Valencia College's Unlocking AI Conference provided faculty with essential tools for addressing academic dishonesty involving artificial intelligence. The workshop covers Valencia College's academic integrity policy, highlighting violations such as plagiarism, cheating, and the unauthorized use of AI tools. Faculty will explore the student conduct review process, ethical decision-making models, and strategies for determining the severity of AI-related violations. Through case studies and group activities, participants gain practical insights on adjudicating these complex issues effectively. This workshop is for faculty roles only.

The "Academic Integrity in Action: Understanding Faculty Roles in the Conduct Review Process" workshop at Valencia College provides an in-depth overview of the institution's academic integrity policy and its importance in maintaining a fair learning environment. Participants will explore their roles in identifying academic misconduct and the procedures involved in the student conduct review process. The session aims to equip faculty with the knowledge and tools to support academic integrity and uphold institutional standards effectively.

Behavior 101: A Faculty Survival Guide for the Modern Classroom Workshop

(90-minute)

The "Behavior 101: A Faculty Survival Guide for the Modern Classroom Workshop" will provide college faculty with effective strategies for managing classroom behavior and creating a positive, engaging learning environment. Participants will learn how to set clear expectations, address disruptions, and foster student engagement through proactive approaches. The session will also cover techniques for resolving conflicts, building strong student relationships, and promoting respect. Faculty will leave with practical tools to enhance classroom dynamics and address behavioral challenges confidently and effectively.

Disciplinary Decoded: Student Organizations 101 Workshop

(60-minutes)

The "Disciplinary Decoded: Student Organizations 101 Workshop" helps registered student organizations to understand their rights and navigate the student conduct review process. Through engaging discussions and real-life scenarios, participants will explore key aspects of organizational conduct, including how to handle potential violations, reporting procedures, and the consequences of misconduct. Attendees will gain practical insights on ensuring their organization stays in good standing while learning how to effectively respond to disciplinary situations. Get ready to learn, discuss, and apply essential skills for leadership and compliance! This workshop is for registered student organizations only.

De-Escalation Workshop

(90-minutes)

The "De-Escalation Workshop" offers practical strategies for managing interpersonal conflict in challenging situations. Led by experienced professionals in student conduct and student affairs, the session covers conflict management stages, communication styles, and the "Four Horsemen" tropes, offering antidotes for each. Attendees will gain tools for self-awareness, safety protocols, and effective de-escalation techniques, using case studies and role-playing exercises. Participants are encouraged to engage, ask questions, and practice skills to better navigate and resolve conflicts in student and professional settings. The workshop is designed to foster a calm, respectful, and solution-focused approach to conflict resolution. This workshop is for faculty, staff, and/or students.

General Student Rights and Responsibilities Overview

(30-minutes)

This 30-minute workshop provides faculty and staff with an overview of the student conduct review process, including how cases are reported, reviewed, and resolved. Participants will learn about their role in addressing academic and behavioral violations, the steps involved in case adjudication, and the potential outcomes for students. The session will conclude with a Q&A, allowing attendees to clarify procedures and explore ways to support student success while upholding institutional policies.

Integrity: The One Thing You Can't Google Workshop

(60-minutes)

The "Integrity: The One Thing You Can't Google Workshop" explores the concept of academic integrity and its importance in maintaining ethical behavior in academia. Led by the Student Rights and Responsibilities team, the session engages students in discussions about mistakes versus choices, the traps of academic dishonesty, and the consequences of actions like plagiarism or using generative AI unethically. Through group activities and real-world examples, participants learn how to make responsible decisions, understand academic penalties, and navigate challenges without compromising integrity in their academic journey. This workshop is for students only.
