Student Success Coach
A New Model for Student Success Coaching
Valencia College transitioned from an academic advising model to a Student Success Coaching model in the fall of 2024. Specific roles such as Academic Advisors, Career Program Advisors, and Program Advisors were renamed Student Success Coaches. Along with this new title, the Student Success Coaches earn a coaching certification, which will equip them with advanced student support and guidance skills.
The New Model
The model focuses on providing personalized support and guidance to our students, extending beyond academics to consider their individual needs. It aims to provide students with the necessary resources and tools for success, emphasizing their academic and personal development and leading to improved academic planning, critical thinking, and decision-making.
The coaching model prioritizes building collaborative relationships with our students to support their learning, educational planning, and goals and create conditions for student success.
Although the titles are changing from advisor to Student Success Coach, the department name will remain Advising Center or Student Services Department on the regional campuses.
