Question Answer
Q: How does Degree Checklist decide where to place courses I have completed?

A: Degree Checklist looks at your program holistically and places each course using a "best fit" scenario. The "best fit" process will not always be perfect, particularly when multiple possibilities exist. Classes may apply to different sections as you take more courses. If you have a course that does not appear in the area in which you expected, please contact a Student Services Support staff member for assistance.

Q: I am pursuing two degrees (an AA and an AS) and only one appears on the Degree Checklist.  How can I check the requirements for my other degree?

A: The student information area on your Degree Checklist includes a field for Degree; if you have more than one degree/program of study associated with your student record, you will notice there is a drop-down arrow. Click on the arrow to select your second degree and your Degree Checklist will display the second degree/program of study.

Q: Does Degree Checklist include my credit-by-exam and transfer courses?

A: Credit by exam and transfer courses will be included on your Degree Checklist after they have been evaluated by the Records & Graduation Office. If you do not see these credits on your Degree Checklist, contact a Student Support Services staff member for assistance.

Q: My Student Success Coach petitioned to substitute a course.  How will that course appear on Degree Checklist?

A: After a course substitution is approved it will be entered on your student record.  The course or credits used as the substitution will appear on your Degree Checklist as an Exception and will have an additional line that explains why the Exception was entered.

Q: What is the What-If option?

A: The What-If is a Degree Checklist feature that allows you to select a program of study that you may be interested in pursuing in order to see how your completed and/or registered coursework would fulfill the requirements for that possible program. The What-If function is for informational purposes only.  To run a What-If, click on the What-If tab underneath the student information area of the Degree Checklist.

Q: Can I register for classes in Degree Checklist?

No; you must register for classes via the Register for Class self-service function in the student portal.  Degree Checklist is a tool to assist you with planning which classes you should take in the upcoming term/semester and does not allow you to register for classes.  Contact a Student Support Services staff member if you need assistance with registration and/or planning which courses you should take.

Q: Do I still need to see my Student Success Coach if I use My Education Plan (MEP)?

A: You should meet with your Student Success Coach to review your Degree Checklist often.  The Degree Checklist is an important tool that will help guide your discussions with your Student Success Coach.

Q: What does the Graduation Calculator show?

A: The Graduation Calculator allows you to calculate your desired Grade Point Average (GPA) at graduation. The Calculator will pre-fill with your current overall GPA (if you have one), the number of credits you have already completed towards your degree/program of study, and any remaining credits needed to complete your degree/program.

Q: What does the term calculator show?

A: The Term Calculator allows you to calculate your Grade Point Average (GPA) at the end of the current term/semester.  The Calculator will pre-fill with your current GPA (if you have one), GPA credits attempted, and your currently registered courses for the term/semester.  Select a grade from the Grade drop-down next to each course and click Calculate to see what your end-of-term/semester overall GPA would be if you receive the final grades you selected from the drop-down.

Q: What does the advice calculator show?

A: The advice calculator will show students how many credits must be earned at a certain GPA to achieve their desired GPA.

Q: Are the grade point averages (GPA) shown in the calculators guaranteed?

A: No. The grade point average (GPA) calculators provide estimated GPAs and are for informational purposes only. For assistance with questions regarding your GPA, contact a Student Support Services staff member.

Q: I think my degree checklist is incorrect. What should I do?

A: These are the most common issues and their courses of action:

  • My major is wrong on my Degree Checklist.
    • Have you submitted a Change of Major/Program form?  If you have not officially changed your major, this can be done in the student portal: it is highly recommended that you speak with a Student Support Services staff member before submitting this form.
  • The requirements for my major are wrong.
    • Look at the catalog term that appears on the major requirements block. According to our records, this is your governing Catalog.  If you believe you should be using older or newer requirements, contact a Student Support Services staff member for assistance.
  • My transfer courses do not appear in the right place.
    • If you are concerned about a transfer course that should be applying in your Degree Checklist, contact a Student Support Services staff member for assistance.
  • Classes are not applying in the “right” place.
    • Degree Checklist uses a 'best fit' approach for meeting requirements so classes may apply to different areas/sections as you take more courses. If you have further questions, please contact a Student Support Services staff member for assistance.
  • I was given approval to substitute a course, but it is not showing on my Degree Checklist.
    • Contact a Student Support Services staff member for assistance. Once a substitution or exception is officially submitted, approved, and entered into the student record, the change will appear on the Degree Checklist.

If none of these describe your situation, or if you need additional help identifying what may be incorrect/inaccurate, contact a Student Support Services staff member for assistance.

Q: Who should I contact if I still have questions or disagree with the degree checklist?

A: Contact a Student Support Services staff member for assistance.
