Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Honors class options available to me?

You can learn more about your honors class options here.

How do I apply for Honors?
Visit our How to Apply page for information on our current application cycle.

Where do I send the supporting documents for my honors application?
All supporting documents should be emailed to honors@valenciacollege.edu. Supporting document emails should include the applicant's full name and their Valencia ID number to ensure the documents are attached to the appropriate application file.

How long will it take to receive my Honors admission decision?
After the application deadline in May, all completed honors applications are reviewed for fall admission. We expect to send admissions decisions to all applicants by late June.

Will I automatically get a scholarship if I am in the honors college?
When you apply to the honors college, you are applying to an academic program, not a scholarship. The Seneff Honors College receives funding to provide a limited number of scholarship opportunities each academic year. Scholarship amounts vary and are awarded competitively. When available, honors scholarship eligibility criteria and deadlines are shared directly with active honors students. If you are seeking scholarship opportunities at Valencia, we recommend visiting the Scholarships section of the College's financial aid website.

What is different about honors classes?
Honors courses at Valencia are interdisciplinary, prepare students to become 21st century learners, and integrate research-driven pedagogies.

Are honors course grades weighted?
No. Unlike high school, college honors course grades are not weighted.

Can dual-enrolled students participate in the honors college?
Dual enrollment (DE) students are always welcome to apply to and participate in the Seneff Honors College, but there is no separate "DE track" for honors. Rather, all honors students are expected to enroll in honors classes and participate in the honors co-curricular requirement each fall and spring semester. Thus, honors may not be the best fit for every DE student – especially those who are highly engaged in extracurriculars (ex. high school athletics, competition clubs, volunteer projects, etc.)

If I’m in Honors, do I have to register for all honors classes?
No, you are not required to take all honors classes. Most honors students take approximately one-quarter to one-half of their AA degree in honors classes.

Do Honors classes cost more?

The Business Office charges the same tuition and fees for all associate classes, including honors classes.

Is there an application fee to apply for the Seneff Honors College?
No, there is no application fee to apply to the honors college.

Is Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) part of the Seneff Honors College?
The Seneff Honors College does not run Valencia's chapters of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK). PTK is a registered student organization similar to National Honor Society (NHS) in high school. For more information about Phi Theta Kappa, visit the Student Development office on your campus.

Will honors help my degree or career aspirations?
Participation in a collegiate honors program is one way to demonstrate your willingness to go beyond the minimum expectations during your college experience. It’s also an easy way to demonstrate academic rigor on your college transcript. (Academic rigor is expected at selective colleges and universities as well as in graduate and professional school.) We are proud to say that our honors graduates regularly transfer into both selective in-state and out-of-state bachelor’s degree programs, continue on to competitive graduate and professional schools, and eventually establish meaningful careers in their chosen professions. Our honors alumni speak positively about their experiences in the program and how it has served as a launchpad to other opportunities for them.

What is the minimum GPA to apply for the Seneff Honors College?
To be considered for admission to the Seneff Honors College, applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.
