Limited-Access Program Information

The Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree in Emergency Medical Services Technology (EMS) has three parts:

  • The first part is the Technical Certificate in EMT (which is an open-access program offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer terms).
  • The second part of the degree is the Technical Certificate in Paramedic Technology (which is a limited-access program beginning in either the Fall or Spring term).
  • The third part consists of General Education and Elective course requirements, which can be completed at any time.
  • Prior to applying to the limited access Paramedic Certificate program, students must have an EMT certification, an active Florida EMT license, and one year of employment as an EMT.
  • Courses for the EMT Technical Certificate are Open Access (EMS 1119, EMS 1119L, and EMS 1431L) and must be taken at the same time.
  • Admission into the Paramedic Certificate program is competitive.
  • General admission to Valencia College does not imply acceptance into the limited-access portion of this program; students must apply and be accepted.
  • Please note Paramedic courses are taught in sequence.
