We offer Valencia students guidance with understanding assignments, developing ideas, drafting papers, assessing grammar and writing skills, reading skills, speech skills, and much more! To access resources and submit online writing consultations and tutor requests, click on this link to enroll on Canvas.

What are Writing Consultations? 

Valencia Students can visit the CSC for one-on-one or online Writing Consultations, as well as Tutoring for reading, writing, and study skills.  

In-Person Writing Consultations 

Our goal is to have you leave the writing consultation as a stronger, more confident writer so you can produce an even better paper next time. 

  • No Appointments are necessary. Walk-ins are welcome and first come, first served. 
  • Bring a copy of the essay and the assignment sheet from the professor. 
  • Most consultations last 30 minutes. 
  • The last consultation is given 30 minutes before closing. 

Online Writing Consultations 

To receive feedback: 

  • Allow 2 business days for a consultant to provide feedback through the Canvas CSC page.

What Can You Expect from a Writing Consultation?  

Trained Writing Consultants provide students with suggestions and corrective feedback, which they can apply to their assignment. However, as a writer, your paper is ultimately your responsibility, so you are responsible for all decisions made during the writing process, including proofreading and editing. 

The CSSC WILL: 

  • Provide feedback on your typed papers. 
  • Analyze strengths and weaknesses in your writing. 
  • Assist you in becoming a better and more effective writer. 
  • Help you understand basic grammatical concepts. 
  • Review MLA and APA styles without doing the work for you. 

The CSSC WILL NOT: 

  • Edit, proofread, or correct papers, citations, or references.  
  • We will not check spelling or grammar throughout your entire paper. 
  • Be a drop-off. 
  • Tell students the answers. 
  • Write your paper for you. 
  • Guess about any unwritten intentions behind your assignments.
