Associate in Science (A.S.)

The Energy Management and Controls Technology Associate in Science (A.S.) degree program at Valencia College prepares you to go directly into a specialized career in energy management, automation and controls technology.

This one-of-a-kind program teaches students how to manage and control a building’s electrical and mechanical systems efficiently using a broad range of current and emerging technologies. Students will develop a proficiency in HVAC/R commercial systems, control theory, logic and programming, installation, system design and integration and will be trained to enter the building automation industry as skilled technicians capable of marketing, installing, designing, servicing, and troubleshooting complex commercial control systems. Students will also have the added benefit of working on controls devices that are representative of the leading brands found in the field, and will complete an industry-based internship enabling them to gain the hands-on experience needed to land a high-demand job when they graduate.

The building sector is the single largest user of energy in the U.S., accounting for roughly 40 percent of total energy consumption. In order to conserve on energy, more cities are implementing green technology, and Orlando is no exception. The City of Orlando is working to implement a mandatory benchmarking program for large commercial and multifamily buildings that will spur the market to make investments in energy and water efficiency throughout the city. As the green energy sector continues to grow and thrive, so will the demand for skilled technicians to manage and control these new energy efficient systems.
