2022- 2023

Effective Fall 2022

The Associate in Science, Nursing (ASN) has implemented changes based on State of Florida Rule 6A-10.04213, which impacts General Education requirements for degree graduation, as well as the Fall 2023 ASN admission criteria. See the catalog and  Program Guide for additional details.

Summary:

  • Students must meet 'Core' Humanities and 'Core' Mathematics requirements to graduate with the ASN.
    • DEP 2004 and Institutional Humanities will only meet admission requirements through Summer 2023 (January 2023 application deadline). Starting with the Fall 2023 admission (May 2023 application deadline), students will be required to have Core Math and Humanities, along with BSC1010C and POS 2041 (or AMH 2020) to meet admission requirements. DEP 2004 and Institutional courses will no longer meet admission requirements starting with Fall 2023 admission.
  • Students must meet Civic Literacy - Course & Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) requirement
Florida Rule 6A-10.04213, prior to the award of an associate or baccalaureate degree, students initially entering a Florida College System institution in the 2022-23 school year* and thereafter must demonstrate competency in civic literacy prior to graduation.

ATI TEAS updated to Version 7. Both Version 6 and 7 are accepted for Valencia program admission criteria, however, starting with the Summer 2023 (January) program application deadlines, students must have TEAS scores less than 2 years old by the application deadline to qualify for admission.

Students must meet the minimum requirements in order to apply, however, this does not guarantee acceptance.

2021 - 2022

NUR1060C Health Assessment Across Lifespan is no longer offered to Pending students and removed as an additional points course.

HSC1004 or SLS1122 has been added to additional points consideration; PHI2600 is now worth 2 additional points when earned with a ‘C’ or higher (see ATN Program Guide for details).

2021 - 2022

Successfully complete the designated entrance exam, ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), with scores posted to your Valencia record of a minimum passing Composite score of 65 (exam requirement subject to change). Scores on record may be used for admission criteria if test dates are less than five years old at the time of the application deadline. Paper copies of scores are NOT accepted. The examination fee is the responsibility of the student. More information about ATI TEAS may be found on the Assessment Center webpage. If ATI TEAS was taken at another institution, students are required to:

1.       Request official exam scores from the ATI site

2.       Then, complete the ATI Matching Request form (assists to add scores to Valencia student record)

Effective Spring

2021

Spring 2019

Applicants who are Paramedic, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist, documentation verifying completion of Florida Board of Nursing approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program or proof of a valid Florida Board of Nursing CNA certification is no longer permitted to satisify the Patient Care competency requirement.

2.  Submission of the Supervisor Assessment of Patient Care Role form (see Program Guide for details).

Concurrent Program Changes

Nursing, Valencia/UCF Concurrent ASN-BSN

Date Updated Effective Date Change

The Traditional ASN program requirements apply to the Valencia/UCF Concurrent program, as students accepted into Valencia/UCF Concurrent are accepted to the Traditional Nursing program. Students applying for the Valencia/UCF Concurrent program will be considered for admission based on UCF’s admission points and ranking procedures.

Students indicate VC program location preference in the program application: Day West Campus, Day Osceola Campus, or Evening/Weekend West Campus (preference is not guaranteed).

Admitted students into the ASN determine their Full-Time or Part-Time Pathway at the point of Nursing course registration.

  2021-2022

Successfully complete the designated entrance exam, ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), with scores posted to your Valencia record of a minimum passing Composite score of 65 - required for Valencia, see the  Valencia/UCF Concurrent ASN-BSN Admission Checklist for the required UCF ATI TEAS score and other requirements for both institutions (exam requirement subject to change).

3/20/17 Fall 2017 International Students are NOT eligible to apply for this Health Sciences Program. Review the International Student Eligibility
  January 2016

Students who have completed a college Nutrition course of two or more credits (e.g. HUN 1201) that did not include Diet Therapy may request permission in the Health Sciences Advising Office (email HealthScienceApplications@valenciacollege.edu) to complete the one-credit HUN 2015 Diet Therapy for Health Care Professionals, which may be in progress at the time of program application, but must be completed with a minimum grade of C (or minimum grade needed to maintain 3.0 general education prerequisite GPA) by the program start date. If taken, HUN 2015 and the initial Nutrition course will combine to substitute for HUN 2202 unless the student has already attempted the required HUN2202 course. Therefore, if a student has HUN2202 on his/her record, then HUN2015 with the initial nutrition course is not an option to meet program entry requirements. The grade for each prerequisite must be posted to your Valencia transcript (prior to application).

For those who are in progress with HUN2015 at another college must provide proof of enrollment in the course (name and institution must be visible) by submitting a copy of course schedule.

You can email documentation to: Healthscienceapplications@valenciacollege.edu.

  2021-2022

Effective Fall 2021

The School of Nursing implemented curriculum changes to the Traditional Associate in Science in Nursing (ASN) program. These changes included a change in program options, such as a new part-time option for all Traditional program tracks (Daytime & Evening/Weekend), admission requirements, and the application process. Details can be found on the FAQ page, the 2021-2022 Catalog, and the  Program Guide

Effective Summer 2022

The Traditional Nursing (ASN) program will no longer have a first-come, first-serve admission process, and there will NOT be a waitlist. The program has changed to a selective, points-based admission. Eligible students are required to apply for the term of interest for admission consideration and must reapply if not selected for program acceptance.

For the new admission process, applicants will be ranked by points earned in prerequisite coursework and by ATI TEAS Composite score points (must also meet the 65 minimum score to qualify to apply). The program will continue to require an overall GPA of 3.0, as well as a prerequisite GPA of 3.0. Details can be found in the updated  Program Guide regarding points, applicant ranking, and all requirements on the admission checklist.

Eligible students may apply for the Traditional Nursing Summer 2022 program start when the application becomes available on January 14th, 2022, found on the application section of the Daytime and Evening/Weekend websites. Students applying for Summer 2022 will be considered for admission per the implemented curriculum changes listed in the 2021-2022 catalog and must meet all admission requirements outlined in the 2021-2022 Traditional Nursing  Program Guide. Students must meet the minimum requirements in order to apply, however, this does not guarantee acceptance.

  2021-2022

Starting in 2021-2022 academic year, as approved by the Valencia College Curriculum Committee, the following are the new admission course prerequisites required to be completed with a minimum combined GPA of 3.0 and a minimum grade of C. Students must also have an overall/cumulative college GPA of 3.0.

ENC1101 Freshman Composition I (3.0 Credits)
BSC1010C General Biology I (4.0 Credits) – Prerequisite for BSC2093C
HUM Humanities (Core or Institutional) (3.0 Credits)
MGF1106 Liberal Arts Math I, or any General Education math (3.0 Credits)
PSY2012, General Psychology (3.0 Credits)
BSC2093C Human Anatomy and Physiology I (4.0 Credits)
DEP2004 Developmental Psychology (3.0 Credits)
HUN2202 Essentials of Nutrition with Diet Therapy (3.0 Credits)
MCB2010C Microbiology (4.0 Credits)

Update: Traditional ASN Prerequisite 3.0 GPA Calculation:
To assist students in the transition of applying to the new admission requirements for Traditional Nursing (ASN), a temporary procedure is in effect for calculating the prerequisite GPA.

If a student’s BSC1010C General Biology I grade has lowered their prerequisite GPA (calculation amounts to less than the required 3.0), then the grade from completing BSC2094C Human Anatomy and Physiology II (prior to applying) may be used in the prerequisite GPA calculation if the grade earned in BSC2094C is higher than the grade earned in BSC1010C. This does NOT replace the BSC1010C requirement. Students must have BSC1010C completed with a ‘C’ or higher to meet the program Admission and Graduation requirement.  Effective Spring 2022 through Summer 2023 admission cycles.

  2021-2022
