Valencia College will be closed for Winter Break from Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, through Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025. The college will reopen and all services will resume on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025.

Global Distinction at Valencia College

Thank you for interest in the Global Distinction Program!

The mission of the program is to prepare students to live and work in an interdependent and multicultural world, while having the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of a competent global citizen.

By the end of the program students will be able to...

  • demonstrate an awareness of the interconnectedness of Local and Global Issues.
  • identify issues from cross-cultural perspectives.
  • engage effectively in cross-cultural interactions.

Program Pathway

Prospective students can choose between two pathways for completion of the program. 

Tier #1 – Global Ambassador

To become a Global Ambassador, students are required to complete Milestones 1 and 2 in the Global Distinction Canvas space.

  • Milestone 1 includes program overview and orientation activities
  • Milestone 2 includes internationalized course requirements and co-curricular requirements
    Note: Global Distinction requires to complete 4 (four) internationalized courses from the Global Distinction Course List and 15 co-curricular points. Check the Global Ambassador Handbook for more information.

Upon completion of Tier #1, the SAGE Office will provide students with a certificate of completion, a small graduation gift, and would be glad to provide a letter of recommendation for any future endeavors.  Please see the  Global Ambassador Handbook for more details.

Tier #2 – Global Citizen

To become a Global Citizen, students are required to complete Milestones 1-3 in the Global Distinction Canvas space.

  • Milestone 1 includes program overview and orientation activities
  • Milestone 2 includes internationalized course requirements and co-curricular requirements
  • Milestone 3 includes a capstone project in consultation with a Global Distinction Advisor
    Note: Global Distinction requires to complete 4 (four) internationalized courses from the Global Distinction Course List and 15 co-curricular points. In addition, students need to complete a capstone project and a short presentation. Check the Global Citizen Handbook for more information.

Upon completion of Tier #2, the SAGE Office will provide students with a certificate of completion, a small graduation gift, and would be glad to provide a letter of recommendation for any future endeavors. In addition, students will receive a medallion that can be worn at graduation and a Global Distinction notation on their official transcript.  Please see the  Global Citizen Handbook for more details.

 

How to Enroll

If you are interested in becoming a Global Distinction student, please complete the following:

  • 1Enroll in the program by completing our online form. We recommend you upload your unofficial transcript so a staff member can verify your course history.
  • 2You will receive a Welcome Email with instructions on how to self-enroll in the Global Distinction Canvas space. Please read the descriptions for the two Global Distinction tiers and decide which pathway you would like to pursue.

The History of the Distinction
The goal of Global Distinction is to prepare students to live and work in an interdependent and multicultural world, while having the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of a competent global citizen. The program, therefore, provides Valencia College students with the opportunity to learn and practice the principles of how to live in and contribute to a growing interdependent and multicultural world. Its brief history, reflects not just the dedication of a group of faculty and administrators to bring this program into fruition, but also Valencia College's commitment to global learning and experiences.
