Getting Started
Valencia FAFSA Code: 006750
1. Apply for degree. Choose the degree you will seek. To receive financial aid, you must seek a degree program or one of the Technical Certificate (T.C.) programs that are approved for financial aid listed on the Eligible Vocational Training Certificates page. If you are undecided, you can get help from a campus Career Center or on–line through your MyVC Account.
2. Request transcripts. All first time in college students applying for financial aid must provide the Admissions Office with documentation certifying your high school graduation, GED or home school credential.
Transfer students: Be sure to add Valencia’s Title IV code 006750 to your FAFSA.
If you are a college transfer student seeking a degree or technical certificate, you must submit all official final academic transcripts from each college or university attended. These must be evaluated for transfer credit before your financial aid will disburse.
If you are currently attending another college or university, have the official academic transcript sent at the end of the term once all grades for classes are listed. Transfer credits must be included in the calculation for Satisfactory Academic Progress. There are three satisfactory progress requirements:
- You must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average, and
- You must successfully complete at least 67% of the courses you attempt at all colleges, and
- You may attempt no more than 150% of the total credit hours in your degree or certificate program.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. Enter Valencia’s School Code (006750) as a school who will receive the results of your FAFSA and allow at least 2 weeks for your form to be processed. Review the FAFSA Tutorial provided by the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB).
You may choose any of these three methods to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA):
- Apply online (Recommended) or
- Complete a PDF FAFSA (Note: PDF FAFSAs must be mailed for processing) or
- Request a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or 1-319-337-5665. If you are hearing impaired, please contact the TTY line at 1-800-730-8913.

4. Follow up on additional information requests. Steps 1–3 only get you started. After that, additional forms and documents may be needed to verify your eligibility, to complete your academic record, or to request student loans and scholarships.
Eligibility
Apply for aid by completing a FAFSA each academic year, beginning in October each year for the upcoming Fall Semester. Apply as early as possible. Many financial aid programs have limited funding that will go only to early applicants. As the deadlines approach each term, waiting times to receive personal assistance become longer, so an earlier application will be far easier for you. For best results, apply each year prior to March 15th.
Will I be eligible?
Most financial aid programs require financial need and are based on family income. However, in addition to need, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be accepted as a degree seeking student in an AA degree or AS career program, or be accepted as a certificate–seeking student in a financial aid eligible vocational training program.
- Be making satisfactory academic progress (see Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress for Financial Aid Recipients).
- Be a U.S. Citizen, national or eligible non-citizen while receiving Title IV funds.
- Must be enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours). Some scholarships and grants require three quarters time (9 credit hours) or full time (12 credit hours) enrollment. Courses must be required for the degree program.
- Not be in default on a prior student loan.
- Not have been convicted for sale or possession of illegal drugs while receiving Title IV funds.
- Not owe a repayment or overpayment of a federal grant.
- Not have an existing financial obligation to Valencia.
- As a first time in college student, you must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
Priority File Completion Deadline Dates:
To have your financial aid processed before your fees are due, you must complete all steps in the application process no later than:
| Term (Semester) | Priority Date |
| Summer 2026 (May - August) | April 03, 2026 |
| Fall 2026 (August - December) | July 17, 2026 |
| Spring 2027 (January - May) | November 13, 2026 |
| Summer 2027 (May - August) | April 02, 2027 |
What if I didn’t meet the above deadlines?
You are still strongly encouraged to apply for financial aid. Your application will
be accepted and processed; however, it may not be processed in time for you to use
financial aid to pay for tuition or books. If you are late, you will need to pay for
your own tuition and books; then, if you qualify for financial aid, a reimbursement
check will be issued to you later in the term. For payment information visit the Business
Office website.

You may be offered work study as part of your overall award; however, even students who have not been awarded Federal Work Study may qualify. Students who indicated interest in work study on their FAFSA and who have unmet financial need are notified via their VC Email of their eligibility for Federal Work Study and how they can begin applying for jobs. Tuition Installment Plan (Tip)
Valencia College offers a Tuition Installment Plan (“TIP”) through a contract with a third party provider, Nelnet Business Solutions, Inc. (“Nelnet”), for students requiring assistance with paying for tuition and fees over a period of time which extends past the term payment deadline.
Available Plan options are based on the point in time that the student enrolls in the Tuition Installment Plan. Except for a student under an active contract that is not in default, the availability or any other component of the Plan may change based on Nelnet’s sole and absolute discretion. All changes are effective as of the date determined by Nelnet. Valencia does not guarantee the ongoing availability of the TIP program and cannot provide advance notice of changes as all decisions are made exclusively by Nelnet.

Paying for Classes with Financial Aid
Once you have been awarded financial aid and meet all requirements, your awards will
be authorized. Financial aid programs are calculated on courses that are part of your
program. All students are awarded based on full-time enrollment and the amount of
funds authorized will be based on actual enrollment.
Note: Funds will only disburse for courses required for your degree or certificate. Make sure to check your MyVC Email for Financial Aid Non-Compliant Course Notification and take appropriate action.
If your authorized financial aid funds cover your entire tuition bill your classes will be automatically protected. If you have a balance after course eligibility is determined and financial aid is applied you will need to pay the difference, otherwise your classes may be dropped on the fee payment deadline.
If you do not plan to attend Valencia it is your responsibility to drop your classes by the end of the drop/refund period or you will be responsible for the tuition and fees.
You can see whether your funds have authorized by checking your billing statement in MyVC. On the Left side of the screen, go to Tools, click My Finances. Then select the My Account Balance link.
