Education and Professional Development Leave
Overview
The purpose of Education and Professional Development Leave is to provide learning opportunities for eligible non-instructional, exempt and non-exempt staff employees and administrators to enhance the individual's future contributions to Valencia College. Education and Professional Development Leave will provide an opportunity to acquire additional knowledge and competency in an employee's respective field to support the mission of the College.
Who can apply?
Full-time, exempt and non-exempt staff and administrators with at least five years of continuous full-time qualifying Valencia service and not in the Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) are eligible for Education and Professional Development Leave. Eligible employees may apply for Education and Professional Development Leave upon completion of four years of continuous qualifying service but must complete five years of continuous qualifying service before the Education and Professional Development Leave can commence.
Application and Selection
Education and Professional Development Leave Application
- Applicants must have a conversation with their supervisor and obtain verbal approval prior to submitting the application form.
- The supervisor is required to provide a plan for replacing the applicant's work schedule. The document will be required on the application form.
- The application form must be completed online by the applicant by the deadline.
- Once the application is submitted, the supervisor and vice president/provost will receive an electronic approval form.
- Organizational Development and Human Resources will check eligibility and will notify applicants and supervisors if there are any issues with the applicant's eligibility.
- All applications and plans are sent to the Education and Professional Development Leave selection committee chair and to all selection committee members.
- The committee will evaluate and make recommendations to the college president. All applicants granted their Education and Professional Development Leave will be notified by the vice president/provost.
Selection Committee
The Education and Professional Development Leave Committee is composed of eight members: six staff members and two administrators and a member of ODHR, who will serve as chair.
