Family Medical Leave
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a federal law established to balance the demands of the workplace with family responsibilities by entitling employees to take leave for specified family and medical reasons. The law is intended to minimize potential employment discrimination and to promote the goal of equal employment opportunity. FMLA applies to all full-time and part-time employees who have worked at the College for 12 months and have worked 1,250 hours within the year preceding the leave. The FMLA entitles eligible employees to take unpaid, job protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had never taken leave. For more information, see the College’s Family/Medical Leave policy.
Employees who are either ineligible for Family/Medical Leave or have exceeded their FMLA maximum allowance may be eligible for a Leave of Absence.
